Some Basic Tips

Read the wiki. It has lots of good information.

When reaching level 3, always keep your Decrypter/Encrypter installed into memory. This will prevent people with a lower D/E from hacking you.
Don't install more programs than necessary. Your system will crash more often, when your memory is filled over 50%.
To access a FSN, it has to be in your nodes list. You'll find the commands you can use with FSNs here:

Download the newest software version from the file server. Newer versions are smaller and make managing hard disk/ memory space easier (and winning too lol).
When you get a credit nibbler virus, donate your money to the faction to keep it save. For the rest buy hardware.
You can find out, if you are infected by opening the terminal at the console and typing:
Always acquire the maximum amount of nodes for your version of node manager. You'll get better results in missions by doing the Node Acquisition to replace high delay nodes with low delay nodes.
Have multiple copies of your NM (and D/E when you got the HDD space), this is a defense against hackers killing either and the effects of that.
When setting up your machine, buy one large memory and one large HD then small fast ones to fill in the rest of the slots.
And check the Mission Perks thread to see at which level you'll get hardware from single player missions.
Always shoot for the maximum XP output you can get, regardless of the CR payout or the number of players in any mission... it is better to take first or second than it is to take 3rd or lower. First is of course best...
